All the stuff before we even got to Australia was part of the journey! Before leaving, we hosted a welcome party for Trees to meet some of the neighbours and school staff. And for our trip to the airport, we splurged and hired a stretch limousine to transport us. Dan and Suz met us at the airport and very generously collected our non-essential Canadian weather clothing until our return in one year less a day. The journey down was LONG… but the whole day stopover in Hong Kong was a well spent. After an extremely long day of exams for both Michael and Kyle we had an evening departure flight in two legs to get to Hong Kong for early morning where we were met by my ex-coworker Simon.
Simon was the ultimate host – taking us for wonderful meals, crammed in several great sites, and he even had researched the tech markets for the best place for Michael to purchase a specific camera lens (Tonika 12-24 wide angle zoom) and he negotiated on our behalf.
Neither Michael nor Kyle had slept on the plane – not easy to get comfy when you are so tall! By the end of the day, Michael and Kyle had been awake for 48 straight hours and were a little like walking zombies. Next thing we knew, we were boarding our plane for Perth for the final 12 hour flight.
